The Handouts

At the Technical Communications Center, we have developed handouts on a wide variety of writing topics geared specifically for engineering students at Texas A&M University at Qatar.  Copies of the handouts are always available in the TCC, but you can also access our handouts online.  Click on a subject heading below to see the handouts in that section. 

General Writing.  From pre-writing to revision, these handouts cover general writing topics such as developing a thesis statement, organizing paragraphs, and writing clear sentences.

Grammar.  This page contains handouts to help you choose the right preposition, make sure that your subjects and verbs agree, avoid incomplete sentences, and more.

Punctuation.  Get help with commas, capitalization, apostrophes, and run-on sentences.

Vocabulary.  Find just the right transition word and make sure you have used the tricky words correctly.

Specific Documents and Applications.  These handouts provide templates and examples for writing documents such as abstracts, resumes, memos, proposals and process descriptions.

Technical Writing.  Learn the conventions of document design and formatting through our handouts on inserting equations, incorporating tables and figures, creating effective PowerPoint presentations, and more.

Researched Writing.  Learn how to introduce, explain, and paraphrase outside source material.

Citation Styles.  Document your sources by referring to one of our handouts on ACS, AMA, APA, ASME, IEEE, MLA, Chicago and SPE.
